🚦【Train Tips】Keep Left or Right? And What “Limited Express” Really Means in Tokyo

🔹1. Follow the Direction Signs in Stations: Left or Right?

In Japan, some stations ask you to walk on the left or right, depending on the layout.

👣 You’ll see signs or arrows on the floor or wall that say:
“Keep Left” or “Keep Right.”

➡ Please follow them to avoid confusion, especially during rush hours.
Not following the flow can cause accidents or inconvenience others.

🔹2. “Limited Express” Trains Are Not Always Extra Fare!

In Japan, not all “Limited Express” trains require extra tickets.

For example:

  • Keio Line Limited Express
  • Tokyu Line Limited Express

You can ride these with just a regular ticket — no surcharge needed!

This can be confusing because:

  • On JR lines, Limited Express trains (like Azusa or Hitachi) do require an extra ticket.
  • On private railways, many Limited Express trains are fast but free with basic fare.

✅ So don’t worry if you see “Limited Express” — just check the signboard or ask staff!
